KFMA issues a position paper on the need for more funding for the Farmers' Market Nutrition  Program

The KFMA believes that the Farmers' Market Nutrition Program, funded by USDA, is a vital program for the health of both Kentucky's citizens and Kentucky's farmers' markets. Limited funding restricts the number of markets and eligible citizens that can take advantage of this program.  Click here to see KFMA's proposed solution to this problem.

New Sampling Requirements

KFMA has worked with the Department for Public Health and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture to formulate the requirements for offering samples at Kentucky's farmers' markets.

KDA has published the step by step instructions on the new sampling requirements on their website. It includes the required chapter out of the Ky Farmers Market Manual and the "test." Please be assured that the "test" – referred to as the affidavit - is easy and should be completed open book. You can get someone to help you with it if you like.

The GAP class requirement covers anyone working for your farm at your stand, but each person must complete the affidavit (test).

SUGGESTIONS FOR MARKETS FROM A MARKET THAT IS DOING THE PROGRAM

(Larry was unable to finish this tip sheet due to the illness of his wife. What he did get finished is well worth reading for any market starting this system.)
