History of the Association

The Kentucky Farmers Market Association was formed in 2006 after farmers' market summits held by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. These summits brought farmers' market managers and sellers together for two days to discuss issues and learn from each other. It became readily apparent that the time was ripe to form a statewide association to continue these conversations and give a voice to Kentucky's farmers' markets.

The Association seeks to provide a conduit for individuals and markets from across the Commonwealth to share information and support. By organizing, farmers and markets have gained a voice in decisions being made about our industry, as well increased buying power and a stronger position for negotiations.

The KFMA achieved 501(c)(6) non-profit status with the IRS in January 2008.
